Gamma lactones are common in fruits, and Gamma Valerolactone has an odor profile of hay and tobacco with five carbon atoms. However, as the number of carbon atoms rises, the odor transforms first into a coumarin-like profile (like the cherry blossom leaves included in sakura-mochi rice cakes), then coconut-like and peach-like profiles.
